In the next 5 years, IoT will be the next norm in enterprises where devices and appliances like vehicles and HVAC systems can be controlled and monitored remotely. ‘IoT at the core of enterprises’ is the first and foremost IoT trend set to rule in 2024.
2. Stronger IoT Impressions in Retail, Healthcare & Supply Chain
The concept of IoT would grow to explore its usage in different areas. This being the most obvious prediction of IoT trends, industries of retail, healthcare, and supply chain industries will likely see the greatest growth. The retail industry is redefining customer experience with IoT in combination with AI and Beacons.
The Healthcare industry is using IoT to manage hospital systems and would help in connecting remotely located patients with doctors and nurses. Integration with smartwatches and other wearables would grow in the coming year.
3. Wider Connectivity Options
IoT experts are exploring new connectivity options, one of them being Low-Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN). Internet of Things would spread its wings in 2024 to reach low connectivity areas with technologies like Narrowband IoT that allow for widespread network coverage at a low cost.
Digging deeper into LPWAN can bring in a new wave of growth to open IoT technology for applications that have not previously benefited from connectivity. IoT trend of wider connectivity can set the path for new technological advancements.
4. Addressing Security Concerns
Security is the biggest concern affecting IoT powered systems. As IoT controls remote accessibility and gives rise to fragmentation, there are higher chances of compromising system security. It was expected that 2024 is see a rise of more secured systems that address complex network security challenges. This year is witness the emergence of a secured connected ecosystem of multiple smart devices. This IoT trend would solve the challenges of automated systems and reduce associated risks.
5. IoT & Blockchain
The distributed ledger technology of Blockchain plays a pivotal role in enhancing the security of communication between devices connected in the IoT ecosystem. The long-existing problem of IoT security now sees a ray of hope with Blockchain technology.
Blockchain has the potential to transform the way we think about IoT security. 2024 would see a host of opportunities coming from Blockchain to address security-related concerns of IoT systems.
6. IoT & AI
IoT and AI have evolved over the years as independent segments; however, the convergence of these 2 revolutionary technologies has brought forth the potential to redefine the standards of automation. While the utility of these technologies has remained largely tethered to another device, now they are coming together to the common ‘mobile’ platform.
Advancements in a machine, deep learning and natural language processing are redefining how we interact with machines. Users can simply talk to the best IoT devices through devices powered by artificial intelligence. 2024 would see an enormous use of AI and Chatbots that would be well complemented by IoT to establish a synchronized and automated environment. It would be interesting to see the magic of this IoT trend in 2024.
7. Big Data
Big data, no list of futuristic trends is complete without the mention of Big Data. The Big Data phenomenon is here to improvise iOS app growth acceleration in 2024. The integration of Big data aids developers to build stable, strong, and scalable iOS apps that carry the potential to boost user growth and also boost business.
The year 2024 would see greater use of Big Data tools that could fetch the most relevant data from a large pool as and when required. Deriving insights from Big Data would take a new shape in 2024.
8. Augmented Reality
It is no surprise that Augmented and Virtual Reality is among the next iOS app trends in 2024. They have been around for quite a time now and have been catching up with app developers and entrepreneurs looking to expand their diaspora. The last couple of years have seen a rise in the obsession with AR games like Pokémon Go and Dino Trek.
Apps like IKEA are harnessing the power of AR to provide unmatched customer experience. In the coming years, AR applications are likely to become mainstream about their abilities in marketing, healthcare, and other major industries.
Currently, Apple offers various tools to create Augmented Reality experiences. They are:
- ARKit 3: A great technology that enables showing content in front of or behind people, following up to three faces at a time.
- Reality Composer: A tool that allows for developing animations and interactions on iOS to improve an application’s content.
- RealityKit framework: This framework uses data provided by ARKit and lets developers integrate virtual items into the real world.
9. Apple Pay
The expansion of online banking standards and rapid growth in eCommerce has largely contributed to the excellent creation of online payment options available to all consumers today. The use of the mobile wallet is at an all-time high across the globe, so much so that most people consider it as a default payment option. They are not willing to pay for their purchases in cash or to type in our wallet.
With the brilliance of combining payment gateways with the Apple pay–Mobile Wallet program, the developers at Apple made payment processing easier and faster. Apple Pay is extremely safe and it removes the need for user-saved data. Data says that 200 percent of the total payment made via the Apple payment gateway is expected to rise. Apple has started promoting the peer-to-peer gateway network for payment across its customers.
10. iBeacon
This is one of the most powerful technologies from Apple. And it is getting increasingly popular in marketing. So, what is iBeacon from Apple? Beacons are wireless transmitters that send signals using Bluetooth technology. Once the connection has been established, a push notification with a set message appears on the user’s iPhone.
Today, if a potential buyer is passing by the clothing store, as soon as customers pass by the shop, sensors placed inside the store connect to the smartphone and send a notification on her mobile about ongoing discounts, offers, and any information that the store owner wants the customer to see.
This particular trend has changed the retail industry and boosted sales, and is not stopping anytime soon. As an example, the US departmental store Macy’s has been using iBeacon technology for a long time now. Customers receive notifications about exciting deals and goods that they may be interested in whenever they pass by one of the Macy’s stores.
