Samsung in smartphone race with Apple is showing its huge competitive strength. The Korea based company unwraps the world’s first curved display smartphone - The Galaxy Round parallel to iPhone 5S.
The launch of iPhone 5s has definitely triggered huge news around the world but Samsung, being a mobile display innovator, has something different to occupy the vast market share. According to the company, this spectacularly designed Samsung smartphone will come in “Luxury Brown” along with other colours to follow, and will be available in Korea on October 10.
The name “Galaxy Round” itself points out that the biggest attraction in the phone is its horizontal curve display, which is contrary to the slight vertical bend seen in Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Nexus S. The sleek smartphone has a 5.7” Full HD Super AMOLED screen with 7.9mm thickness and weighs 154g.
The slight horizontal screen offers excellent grip compared to other mobiles in the market and the innovative feature “Round Interaction” backed up with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI supports tilting gestures, which allows users to look at information such as missed calls, battery life, date, time and notifications, when home screen is off.
The concave phone runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 3GB RAM including 13 megapixels camera same as Galaxy S4 and Note 3. It seems that this time Samsung is all set to woo even its competitors with some exceptional out-of-the-box features.
Samsung Round’s new feature “gravity effect” claims to bring the visual interaction live by just titling the device with a finger.
The “Bounce UX” feature, making music come live at fingertips, enables users to control their music with simple tilt and tap. While curved display is off and a playlist running, a short press to right will play the next track and a short tap to left will play previous track. Moreover, the same applies well for videos and pictures as the “Slide Mirror” feature allows users to check the list of album content with a right and left tilt.
