Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung, the South Korean electronics giant, has officially announced the Galaxy S4 Active on 5th June 2013. This upcoming device is a dustproof, waterproof and sturdy version of the company's latest flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4. Specially designed for the adventurous people, this device can fend off water damage for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter. It also carries a water resistant headphone jack.
The S4 Active measures 139.7 x 71.3 x 9.1 mm and weighs around 151 grams. So, it is heavier and thicker than the Galaxy S4. Furthermore, the single home button of the S4 has been replaced by three physical buttons (menu, home and back), in the S4 Active. Also, the upcoming handset boasts a 5 inch Full HD TFT LCD screen with Samsung's ‘Glove Touch’ feature. This feature enables to operate the device even while wearing gloves.
The S4 Active is powered by a 1.9 GHz Quad-Core processor along with a 2,600mAh battery. The 8 MP camera on the rear is equipped with a new Aqua mode feature that claims to deliver better underwater pictures and videos. The camera’s LED flash is also designed to act as a torch by long pressing the volume key. The device also has a 2 MP camera at the front. The Active runs Google's latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system along with 2 GB of RAM. It has 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64 GB via memory card. Other software features include Samsung's ‘S Travel' for travel assistance and ‘S Translator’ for text or voice translation.
The device will hit the stores, this summer. Firstly, it will enter the U.S. and Sweden markets. The users will get three color options including Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare. There is no information regarding the carrier or price of the device. However, it is being expected that AT&T could be the launch partner of the device and the price could be set between between $199 and $299.
