Google recently launched Resonance Audio, a new spatial audio software development kit (SDK) to provide high-fidelity 3D sound in 360-degree video, VR, and AR. Designed to be compatible across platforms, Resonance Audio works across mobile and desktop platforms, from game engines like Unity to the web. Also available as a standalone VST plugin, Resonance Audio can be used within multiple audio creation programs.

Resonance Audio provides immersive experience by simulating how sound waves interact with human ears in the real world by determining a sound’s horizontal location and its elevation. Resonance Audio replicates these interactions to create illusion of sounds coming from specific locations in a virtual world. The ultimate result is a more immersive and realistic experience, whether it’s a Virtually Reality app, a 3D game or Augmented reality.

To give an example, if you are walking around in a circle around someone playing a guitar, Resonance Audio adjusts a guitar’s direction of sound, the shape of how the sound emanates, and how wide the sound will travel. This effectively means if the guitar is strummed, it will sound different to the person if you’re standing in front of or behind it.

How Resonance Audio will help Mobile App Developers

Developer Advantages

Spatial audio technology optimized for performance and multi-platform support.

Advanced audio engineering features

Resonance Audio goes beyond basic 3D spatialization, providing powerful tools for accurately modeling complex sound environments.

Cross-platform support

The best part is that this platform works for a wide range of platforms, including Android, iOS, and 3D engines like Unity and Unreal, as well as digital audio workstations (DAWs), letting you focus on creating more immersive audio.

Here is the quick list:

  • Unity
  • Unreal
  • FMOD
  • Wwise
  • Web
  • Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
  • Android
  • iOS

There’s potential for WebVR, Mobile VR and AR experiences to improve across the board with better spatial audio.

High fidelity spatial audio at scale on mobile and desktop.

Google is now building tools to help mobile application development companies build AR and VR applications, rather than limiting to the conventional game development. This platform is optimized to gain maximum advantage for mobile’s computational resources, providing developers the much needed advantage and cost-effective output. It is important to partner with a leading mobile application development company to implement Resonance Audio in your next project.
