Apple and IBM on 15th July 2014, announced a global partnership, with a view to contribute their strength in the giant hub of Enterprise Mobility. IBM’s expertise of big data and analytic capabilities are intended to blend into iPhone and iPad platform. A new series of apps would be developed by IBM from the ground up for iPhone and iPad that can be useful for various industries like retail, travel, healthcare, and other such industries.
Apple CEO Tim Cook and IBM CEO Virginia Rometty both believed and shared their feeling with CNBC about Apple and IBM are like “puzzle pieces” that perfectly fits with each other.
“We knew that we needed to have a partner that deeply understood each of the verticals,” Cook told CNBC. “That had scale, that had a lot of dirt under their fingernails so to speak, of really understanding each of these verticals, and we found a kindred spirit in IBM.”
Ginni Rometty, IBM Chairman, President and CEO said – “Mobility – combined with the phenomena of data and cloud – is transforming business and our industry in historic ways, allowing people to re-imagine work, industries and professions. This alliance with Apple will build on our momentum in bringing these innovations to our clients globally, and leverages IBM’s leadership in analytics, the cloud, software and services. We are delighted to be teaming with Apple, whose innovations have transformed our lives in ways we take for granted, but can’t imagine living without. Our alliance will bring the same kind of transformation to the way people work, industries operate and companies perform.”
The prime motive of this tie-up is to redefine the structure of the workflow beating the challenges of mobility and providing an exceptional innovation to businesses. This establishment is divided into four core capabilities-
- More than 100 enterprise solution apps along with native apps are pipelined to be developed for iPhone and iPad.
- Cloud services from IBM are intended to be optimized for iOS along with device management, security, analytics and mobile integration.
- New service and support – AppleCare® is introduced, which will cater customized requirements of the enterprises.
- A new service from IBM will be available for device activation, supply and management.
Tim Bajarin – an industry analysts share his view as Apple has already succeeded to rattle the IT industry with its exclusive devices. Now, working with IBM shows the clear picture of continued growth of Apple in the market at an enterprise level too. It may be challenging for Google and Microsoft now while making a mark in the enterprise as well as mobile industry.
From the beginning, Apple’s tie-up looks to be an extensive suggestion to big business compared to the Google which is prepared with Android L. We will need to hold up and watch how both plans hit and legitimate the enterprises.
